Diabetes, Changing Our House in More Ways Than One

One Big Transition
On Thanksgiving, my sister Taelor was diagnosed with Diabetes. Everything has change, for the whole family. Taelor is a very competitive gymnast, and is in great shape. We were all so surprised that she was shown as a type one diabetic. Instead of making this a traumatic thing we took it as it is and changed our lives. Everything from responsibility to nutrition, we all had to be on board. You see my mom is on a mission, a mission to cure my sister. All the doctors assured my mom that it is impossible. My mom has really started working on Taelor's eating habits. We were already very healthy eaters, but after talking to multiple naturopaths and nutritionists, my mom has ditched wheat, gluten, sugar, flour, and all dairy products. It was really hard for me, because I love pasta and things like yogurt and pretzels. My mom of course didn't get rid of everything, and I can have some thing once in a while, she doesn't want to be too crazy. After talking to many professionals my mom has come to the conclusion that if it is not good for Taelor to eat it cannot be all too good for us, forget the diabetes. I thought that I wouldn't be able too do it, but after giving it a try for Taelor, I found out that brown rice pasta isn't so bad after all. After 2 weeks of eating healthier, my sister's pancreas is producing almost 100% percent insulin. Doing this could make her life so much easier, but not only will she benefit, so will I. I will feel good about helping with the nutrition and my body will be so much healthier. This is my big transition.
